Track Down, Station Starts

I have settled on the name Podbury for this layout. It just seemed to fit. The track has now all been laid, some of the terrain has been glued down and the platforms and cattle dock/goods siding started (and currently being worked on).

Platform started. I’m kit bashing some Ratio kits I bought secondhand for this.

Even some ballasting started.

And I’ve already used it to run in some of my recent acquisitions.

Dapol Class 22 Baby Warship. Got this last weekend. Its stablemate, A4 Bittern needs larger radii (I think) so will need a run on the larger DCC layout. Along with…

Dapol Chipped Southern Terrier

Dapol Southern Terrier. Purchased in April from Osbournes who chipped it for me. Tiny, ain’t she. Poor bugger has been waiting since July to be run in. Not long now.

I also spent a couple of evenings getting my head around the best way to do the electrics. “But its only one siding for goodness sake” – I hear you cry. Electrics are not my strong point – I can’t even rewire a bulb.  😉  Don’t forget, as well as being a DC layout to run in new locos, this is also about trying out new things and micro-switches, signals and panel lights are definitely new for me.

Anyway, I now have my one point test wired up with a colour signal via a micro-switch and a second micro-switch feeding panel lights all ready to be fitted.

Spending Christmas Cash – 2 new locos

I was very fortune to receive £50 cash from both my father and my mother in law this year so a trip to one of my favorite models shops was in order – Alton Model Centre. I needed to pick up a few bits and bobs for the new layout and took the chance to have a look in their superb second hand section. I had seen a Graham Farish Garth Hall in there on my previous visit and it was still there this time. A 49xx Hall class was an obvious admission from my loco lineline and this one would fit the bill nicely I thought. A quick run on their test track showed that other than a light oiling and a decent running in session, this hardly used specimen was well worth the £45 asking price.

But how to spend the remaining money? Well I had two likely candidates to choose between – a SR Q1 class or a A1X Terrier. I just love the look of the Terrier “Waddon” in its very pretty livery and at £60rrp it was within budget and was therefore duly purchased.

Garth Hall has now had its first running session and is quietening down a treat but I am yet to let the Terrier have a run. Once the new board is a bit further progessed and I have a proper running session, it will be let off the leash.
